Some of the traditional properties used to have fire places in every room however this style has long been out of fashion and they are often boarded up and neglected.
Fireplaces can make a nice focal point for any room and not only do they provide an additional heat source for your home, the additional air flow can also help with problems such as damp.
We work with stone fireplaces to bring them back to life and try to preserve as many of the original features as possible. Where these may have been lost or where you are looking to renovate what is currently there we build and repair bespoke custom fireplaces and stone surrounds, often using Portland or Bath stone from a local quarry.
Our work also extends to the chimneys which are structurally important to supporting the house. As is often the case with Bath stone, it deteriorates over time (especially in damp or weathered areas), and needs renovating to ensure structural stability. Post war, builders often used black rock and cement which stops the mortar from breathing which results in the stone blowing. This can have a devastating effect on your chimney breasts.
At the end of the works we use certified chimney sweeps (HETAS registered) as part of the process to ensure that the fireplace is safe to use.
